How to Repair Carpet

The carpet is an important piece of design in your home. Somehow things chance when it gets damaged. But don`t worry, you don`t need to rush and buy a new one every time it happens. There may be ways to save a carpet, like cutting out certain pieces of it and then replacing them with careful precision with others. How to Re-Stretch Carpet First of all, you need to clear up the area by removing all the furniture around. You need to stretch the carpet in order to add some length, so you may loose the tack strips. Don`t worry, you will reattach them later on. The next step is to ensure that the the carpet is not bunched up in some areas and it`s in place, all smooth underneath. In the case of the doorways and vents you need to change the position, so you may need some scraps to help you out.Some seam sealer will be needed to prevent the rim from untwisting. Re-expanding your carpet will cut down on wear and damage and shorten it`s life, just in the case of bubbling up in some areas. How to Repair Carpet Snags In the case of loop pile, snags are made just when the loop comes unfinished. To fix them, you need to make a cut right in the center of the pulled trand. Be sure that there will be the same number of loops on each side of the cut. Use masking tape to outline the run. On the inside of it, apply adherent material. Then, you can use a nail set to put the texture back in place to make the right size loops. The Barber carpet you might need to be more patient. By using a long thin tool, you will be able to pull up the next loop without damaging all the way loops in the back of the backing side of the carpet.Please pay attention on the yarn to see if it`s in the material and when it forms the next loop. Use another thin tool to pull the next loop up, to pull the snack down. In the end you need to have the snag bigger than the loop you just pulled out. You will repeat the process as many time as you need, keeping the loop you pulled out smaller. How to Repair Carpet Burns In this case you may have small burns or more serious ones. In the best case, you can repair the carpet by carefully trim the burned fibers off. In the worse scenario, with a bigger burned area, the best option might be the replacement of the particular area of the rug. If you don`t have a remnant to replace it, you may cut a small piece from a place that cannot be noticed, like from the back of the closet. The best idea to do this is to use a can as a template before cutting any piece of the carpet. It will make a more precise cut, without risking any unpleasant cuts. It will also help with matching the new piece out. After removing the piece to replace the damaged spot, carefully remove the damaged carpet.Use a carpet tape. This should have a bigger length than the damaged area`s diameter, to be nicely replaced without any worries of unexpected reopening. Place the carpet tape in place and after that, make sure your repair piece is into the right matching position.Place weight on the replaced area for a couple of days to be perfectly merged with the existing carpet. Don`t forget to pay attention on the edges to secure. This tactic also works with stains and patching holes. If you prefer, you can always ask for a professional assistance to help you out.
