When assembling your deck, there are a number of choices to pick from, such as brass, stainless steel or galvanized screws, nails and fasteners intended to be hidden. Make sure to follow the instructions of the manufacturer to ensure you use the correct type of fasteners, taking into account the substrate and the depth of your flooring.

Railings

A railing is an important safety measure for your deck, but they also add appeal, complementing and enhancing the overall design of your floor; and whether you pick something rustic or trendy for a railing, its style should be in contrast with both your house and your deck.

Sleeves, trims and post caps

Add some elegance to your railing with some fashionable sleeves, trims and post caps to enhance its appearance or simply add more security to your deck.

Dividers and privacy walls

Granted that you live in a duplex or an apartment, find privacy can be challenging. There are some ways in which you can create the privacy you need on your outdoor deck, having plants and privacy walls tactfully placed. Having a privacy wall built is a nice way to add some elegance and functionality to your outdoor area.

One of the many reasons decks are so popular lately is that you can hold gatherings outside which otherwise would be problematic indoors, like having too many people over and worrying about damages, cleaning, making a barbeque and leaving the smell imbibed in your clothes or people smoking and bringing their pets and kids. Or you could simply build one to have an outdoor kitchen, or have something surrounding your pool and garden; and maybe build one just for yourself, with a swing, and give yourself time and room to reflect.
